i have really got to get this off my chest,
just had a parcel returned from royal mail which i was claiming for because it was broken in the post, the figurine was wrapped in tissue, bubble wrap, cardboard, then bubble wrap again and finally the special delicery bag was filled with polystyrene both ends, they have now said they will not pay the £54 as it was not wrapped properly, what more can you do it even says in there literature that they reccomend you use there own envelopes, this seems a really good get out clause as they can say for every item that in THEIR oppinion it was not wrapped properly,so whats the point of spending £5 on special delivery

I know it doesn't help you in this instance but hollydays is right.
I work for Royal Mail and SD is the thing we excell in as it's much more likely to get there by the time stated and costs less than half the pric eof some rival couriers.
If you pack things, I suggest using as big a box as you can. Most of us DO care about trying not to damage items but they can get handled over ten times before reaching their destination and often have to be tightly packed into mail cages and vehicles so the more protection the better.0 -
I used to send delicate objects sold on ebay and I did all the above plus packed it in a larger box stuffed with polystyrene twists all around the object. I then packed the box in 2 layers of strong brown paper and enough brown tape to just leave space for the addresses and stamps. Nothing ever arrived damaged. In over 1000 mailings of all types only 2 were lost and they were 1st class. RM did a fantastic job0

yes i agree a box would have been better but the item was only about two inches long and about an inch high, and by the time i finished wrapping it ,it was the size of a small football,i have sent loads of stuff before and it has always been fine,my only moan is that the one time i have claimed they say there was not enough protection, seeing as i had wrapped cardboard round it as well i dont see what difference it made,Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I think the fact that it was the size of a small football explains how it got broke.
