Sending in the baliffs ! Anyone got experience

A long ongoing saga this one - basically I have won a claim through small claims court for £570. The defendant has been ordered to pay, and was given a month - moved house, but I tracked him down, so he was then given another month to pay - it has now ended.

My only option now is to send the baliffs in, just wanted to know if anyone else has had to do this - whats the cost involved ? if the address has changed again, will they still try to track him down etc....

Any advice would be much appreciated

I though you had to go back to court, pay a fee (that can be added to the claim) and the court sends and appointed bailiff.

Have you phoned your court to find out what happens next?

Here, this is what you do next, Warrant of Execution.

Get out your yellow pages & look for certified bailiffs. Most will carry out doorstep collection of amounts like this whilst they're out & about on other jobs.

Ring round a few explain the situation & ask them for their prices. DO NOT ask them to trace him if you can avoid it, as their charges are likely to be high & unrecoverable from the debtor your chasing.

    Good luck :)

My understanding is that you would need (at a fee) to transfer the matter to the High Court for enforcement.

Not worth it. Just send the County Court bailiffs in. If it is a residential address for an individual, you should be OK with enforcement.
  • Ooops, the OP has judgement already...

Yeah in that case ignore me, & go with peachy...

Altho i stand firm on recommending you confirm they are still at the address you have before you pay for the bailiff to go out.... :rotfl:
  • Total waste of time and money in my experience. I have been through the County Court system once and never again for an individual. I "won" by default. The defendant just ignored everything from the court and was never at home when the bailiffs called so they gave up trying. I was not prepared to throw more good money into the system so gave up!
The only satisfaction was that the defendant had a ccj against their name but I'm sure there are ways around this being an obstacle for the savvy ones?
