WOW considering that the op never mentioned or even intended that they were thinking of compensation i think there has been some pretty harsh thoughtless replies given
and as some other posters said do you not have kids or have you never let them walk a few paces infront of yourselfs or do you have kids but you keep them on a leash
I must be the worlds worst parent as i let my two girls walk infront of me
OP i hope your little one is ok and makes a speedy recovery
I always remember my older brother coming home with his wrist gushing out with blood
he had been at a wooden playground where the council had removed the swings but left bolts and sharp metal where the swings were attached
he had swung on the wood and you can guess the rest
he had cut an artery/vein
he got compensation from the council for his injurys think it was arround £1000
yet in reality it was his own fault as he swung off the thing
but guess what kids do things there not supposed to do thats life we live and learn by it. did any of you never ever do something you knew you were not really supposed to do as a kid
as someone else mentioned councils can not check every man hole cover every day but........
if it is the councils man hole cover then reading the ops post re long grass surely it is the councils responsibility to maintain there area cut the grass ect mabey if they were then this would have been picked up on and prevented injury to this young girl
sorry to all those who disagree with me but i hate logging into this site lately to see people torn apart for something they have not even said they are going to do
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE FRIENDLY OLD MSE THAT I JOINED UP TO
come on people0 -
go to a solicitor and make sure you take photos (of your child) and of the manhole.
that is of course if you want compensation, if i was me id want as much money as i could get, especially if i had lost teeth.0 -
fisihngcinema he got compensation because he did what a child would expect to do - it was councils fault for not ensuring playground was safe ie they hadnt left bolts etc poking out!0

need to calm down - as so many people seem to be posting just to annoy others . I dont mean you fishingcinema. deep breath - if someone is negligent and causes injury to another then they are liable - always been the case. put it simply 'where theres blame theres claim' there lies the rub . who is to blame? if someone deliberaty does something the blame is clear - but negligence also comes under this. its never clear cut. each case should be considered on its merits and that is - i think - what courts in this country do.0

Milk teeth?0 -
i nearly didnt post this cos i am peed off but- sarahg - my son had accident and knocked out his front teeth - milk teeth - his adult teeth came through all crooked- dentist said was because of damage to milk teeth - this is one of reasons why you can claim for childhood accidents until you are 21 - cos body still growing and results of accidents cannot be established until you are fully grown.0

and it was accident - no one to blame!0

sorry, I didn't get a chance to reply back last night. I was trying to get an appointment with the out of hours dentist as well as feed the family, bathe kids etc.... They booked us an appointment for today as it was getting really late and it is quite a distance from us. Turns out the dentist at the clinic near us has called in sick!!!
I agree with fishingcinema, what happened to the friendly old MSE? Some of the comments I've received are so unfair and actually make me mad - my four year old has been crying most of the night with toothpains and can't eat much without aggravating it. She can't stop talking about 'the hole' and how ' I didn't know it was there mummy' I was looking after my children and I resent people who were not there and know nothing about me or my life or my children suggesting otherwise. And I never even mentioned making a claim for those of you cynical enough to blatantly imply I was.
On the other hand thanks to all those who have given helpful advice. I am trying to get through to the council as we speak (there's always call waiting!!!).:heart2::heart2:On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur :heart2::heart2:we're debt freeeeeeeeeeeee....FREEEEDOM!!! :j:T0 -

hi there
hope your little girl is ok and recovers quickly
my little one fell over and put her bottom tooth through her top lip, knocked one of her front teeth behind another and chipped her bottom tooth whilst on holiday in dlp this year. there was alot of blood and tears and for a day or two she was not too keen on eating and could not keep her dummy in to soothe her as it hurt her to suck on it so had a sleepless night and her tooth started to go grey
luckily a few days and she was back to her normal self
took her to the dentist when we got home who said she had killed the nerve in her top tooth and it would go grey and eventualy fall out well it did go grey and started to get worse but somehow now it has gone lighter again and looks more like her other teeth.
i must have just been lucky
i also asked if it would affect her adult tooth coming through and was told it should not
i know its upseting and makes you angry but take the nasty unthoughtful posts with a pinch of salt and move on
just think to yourself if it had happened to them it would be different
all the best to you0
