Anyone been to see pandas in a zoo??

Hi!

has anyone any experience of planning a trip to visit Pandas somewhere??

DD age 7 is Panda crazy and will happily give up birthday and Christmas presents to get to see a real panda! We are considering going to Atlanta briefly next year (see Atlanta thread!) but not sure this is the best place but it does fit in with travel plans and will be cheaper than flying to europe to see them.

I know there are pandas in Berlin, Vienna and various US zoos so it is fairly limited.

Any thoughts or shared experiences gratefully received!

    Hi,
I have just returned from travelling around Canada and the USA for 7 months. Whilst their we visited Washington DC Smithsonian Zoo which had just given birth to the baby Tai Shan Panda (which has you probably know is quite an achievement for pandas to give birth in captivity). Whilst on this subject if you go to the Animal Planet website you can watch live feed of the pandas (something your daughter maybe interested in).

We then visited the San Diego Zoo on the west coast and it has been claimed to be the best zoo in the world and it has to be said it is very, very good. I am animal mad but even at the age of 28 there are some animals that I have never seen and pandas are one of them. The pandas at San Diego Zoo were equally fabulous and I would highly recommend this zoo.

Hope this helps in some way.

Thanks for all your tips, we are considering atlanta only because it fits in better with our flight plans. However if someone said it was not good for pandas or really recommended going to Austria I might reconsider!

    Animal planet here we come!
