How do I cook a shoulder of lamb in the SC??

I would go with your original plan. I think it makes a difference to the flavour and look of the meat if it's browned beforehand but I know others don't bother.
I would add the garlic before browning. I chop up a couple of cloves of garlic. Take a sharp knife...insert it into the meat and twist to make holes then pop the garlic slices into the holes. You could do that tonight and marinade in the wine if you wanted then add the marinade to the slow cooker tomorrow. A bit of rosemary wouldn't go amis either if you have any.
Whatever you decide, I hope it goes well.

OK, I would not have thought of adding the garlic to the mutton before frying it, but I will do that tonight, then put it in a freezer bag with more seasoning and red wine and leave it over night.0

OK, the mutton and veg is about done.
I am intending to take the meat out and wrap it in foil and allow it to cool. I will then scoop the veg out and put that aside in a dish.
Then I will put all the juice (there is loads of it) into a jug and put in the fridge. I've read that the fat will then sit on the top? Scoop off the fat, pour the rest of liquid to saucepan, bring to boil, add bisto powder, and pour over meat and veg?
Does that sound ok?0 -

First of all it's not a great idea to put hot liquid into the fridge. Could you let it cool naturally and then remove the fat? Another tip I read here recently was to add icecubes to the juices and once the fat clings to them just remove them.
If you have a lot of juice, to thicken it you can either bring it to the boil and let it reduce or if you have cornflour mix it with a little cold water, remove the pan from the hob and add the cornflour mix gradually while continually stirring. I'm not sure about bisto as I've never used it.

I all honesty, I am not that bothered about removing loads of fat. It's tasty!
I use bisto powder just the same way you use cornflour.
Pawpurs mentioned making shepherds pie with the leftovers. Any idea how that would work?0 -

I'm after some advice please ... I bought a shoulder of lamb knuckle the other day but have no idea what to do with it now. I thought I would pop it in to the slow cooker but then realised I have no idea what else to do with it (ot whether it will be OK).
Please can anyone recommend a way of cooking (and full instructions please) I'm guessing that I am too late to put it in the slow cooker for today (to eat at 7)?
Also, it is only 0.83 kg - will it be enough for 2 adults + 1 10 month old?

I'm trying to use up some of the stuff in the freezer, (it's a tight month) and I got a boned lamb shoulder out to defrost last night, to roast today. But with the cold weather it's still half frozen. So I need to find another use for it. The problem is we are home late from work on Monday and Tuesday, and then off out again soon after, so there's not going to be time for me to get it roasted.
Is it possible for me to cook it in the slow cooker? It's a reasonable sized joint so I won't get much else in there with it. But that's OK, as I'll have time to sort veg out. I'm just not sure if it would cook through.0
