switching energy providers, for when we move into our new house

hi there,
my OH and I move into our first house together in a few weeks (all being well) I just wanted to know how we go about switching energy providers before / as we move in. are we tied into the existing ones ? or can we tell them we are teh new owners, and no longer wish to have them providing our fuel ???

you will need to start off with the ones in-situ then change once you move in. it can take up to 6 weeks to change.0

We instigated the transfer of energy suppliers as soon as we exchanged - this was 3 weeks before we moved in. The transfer happened quickly, and meant we only ended up having to be with the incumbent supplier for one week after we completed, before moving onto our chosen cheaper one.
