Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'm cooking cottage pie for OH and me tonight so will try him on that. Although I have found out that my best efforts have been twarted by my sister - I picked DS up from hers and found his mouth covered in chocolate I asked if she had fed him the chocolate organic baby biscotti that I had left in his bag, she had no shame in telling me that No - that was still in his bag - he'd had an entire Maryland Cookie and he loved it :eek: My response was... "well he'll have to have 2 bananas tomorrow to make up for it" :rotfl:0

I don't doubt for a minute stokegal that you are doing a great job and there is plenty of sound advice here for you. Just go with your instinct!
I have never cooked seperate meals, my boys have always eaten the same as me, they're now 6 and almost 11 and we eat a meal together every day without fail. I often get comments from people about what good eaters they are and how unusual it is to see kids eating veggies like they do. Well, in my opinion if you give kids veggies from day one, they'll eat them. If you wean them on junk, they'll eat junk. My boys' first meals were carrots boiled to the death and a squirt of baby milk and it hasn't done them any harm.
If you want something you can take out places with you I used to make extra and freeze portions in plastic cups. Of course jars of baby food are handy sometimes, but surely don't taste anywhere as good as mum's dinner!!Debt busting! Jan 2014 £7632.50 £7445.80

When i had my first baby my mum always said if you would eat it then baby can eat it... and now 3 children later i still live by this if im prepared to eat it then i'll let my children have it too
Just watch the salt content
As for over heating i use the gro bags (wonderful invention) and toys are toys hun if wether they are educational or not my yongest is mad on thomas the tank and the time he spends playing and counting (he's 2 and can count to 10 with help) his trains is quite scary sometimes lol x
Just go with how you feel, books are great as a reference tool but you know whats best for your child xThere's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

My baby is 6 mths and for the first month of weaning I stuck pretty much to the Hipp Organic/ellas kitchen/organix jars and fruit purees - also fromage frais, baby rice and rusk. Now I've started just blending him up a bit of what we;re having (or mashing with a fork) IF suitable. For example yesterday we had sausage, mash and veg so I mixed up the mash and veg for him. Today though I made a lasagne using jar sauces so I didnt give him that - he had an organix jar and a fruit pot. At the moment for me its about getting a balance between convenience and him also getting some fresh, homemade food.
A particular favourite of his is sweet potato mashed with some cream cheese and peas.
I personally also try to introduce baby led weaning around this time (around when they can use a high chair) so basically introducing lots of finger foods - cooked or uncooked for baby to self feed with. I did this with my second child and he came on alot quicker coordination wise and was far less fussy than my first. A few examples of suitable foods - most fruit and veg - cooked or raw, omlette, ham/cheese, bread/sandwiches, chicken/meat cubes, pasta, potato (diced) - anything really - just obv always stay with your baby for fear of choking.MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

My dd is doing the baby led weaning, with my gd and I am very impressed at the stuff she likes to eat. She is 7 months old too. The only thing she doesn't have are salt and added sugar. I have a picture of her eating a piece of rump steak. She gummed it do death as she has no teeth yet. Loves olives, spaghetti bolognaise and cheese sandwiches. She also eats any fruit except mango. But that is only because she can't keep hold of it. It is too slippery.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:
