Phone Battery

Hi
Hope this is the right place to post this!
Just a quick question regarding my home telephone. Last summer I bought a new BT cordless phone. Recently the battery has been going flat really quickly. My phone can be on charge for the whole day and after a 20 minute conversation the battery dies! Its always kept on charge and until very recently I use to be able to have a 2 hour chat and the battery was still half full. Do I need to replace the batteries or is there something wrong with the phone? If I replace the batteries do I need to buy special ones or just rechargeable ones? I find it a little strange as previously I had a Philips home phone and I had it for 5 years with no problems, never needed to change the batteries.

Thanks for any advice.
