windows stop

hi guys I have a dell laptop,,when i am playing music I get a message after a short time saying windows stop error goes to blue screen then restarts,,any suggestions,,could it b overheating it is over 50 degees I have noticed at times,,is this normall? wot temp should it run at?

    It's possible, though 50 degrees doesn't sound too high for most CPUs. It depends on make and type, but many will run happily much hotter than that.

    More likely IMO is that the drivers for one or more devices on the motherboard need updating - most obvious would be the built-in sound chipset.

    If you go to the Dell support website and put in your Tag number you should be able to see what the latest driver versions are.

    The easiest way to understand what is causing this error is to make not of the stop code which is present on the blue screen. There maybe several so take a note of all of them.

    Also (assuming ur using XP) after a blue screen occurs a minidump log is written in the c:\Windows\Minidump directory.
    If you send it to me I can analyse and let you know what it is the most likely cause of the problem.
