COMET re-stocking charge policy

Can anyone offer any advice. I bought a freesat box from Comet, and subsequently tried it out at home, but was not happy with the product. I repackaged the product, and returned it to the store for a refund the following day. I was then told that I would be charged 10%, referred to as a re-stocking charge, as some of the plastic bags had been opened.
None of the above was explained at the time of purchase, so this came as quite a shock. They pointed out a notice over the counter explaining this, but I can honestly say that I had not seen it. Is it legal, as I feel like I have been robbed of £25.
Many thanks.

If the product is not faulty then Comet are under no obligation to take it back. They would have been well within their rights to refuse to take it back at all. They are now left with a unit which they cannot sell as brand new so will have to discount and the restocking fee goes some way to recouping the loss they have sustained.0

Would you rather they told you that you can't return the box at all and then you are stuck with something you don't want? If it's not faulty, they do not have to take it back and due to the fact it's been opened, I think 10% is actually a fair deal...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Yes its legal. If you bought something and changed your mind its not Comets fault is yours
How would you like it if someone can back they cant sell the item now as new so take a loss so you will have to pay the fee or keep it
I aint a fan of Comet but your in the wrong0
