    I'd recommend Crucial every time for RAM (great quality & value):

    http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Business%20Notebook%20530

    Replacing one of the sticks is easy;

    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01039180/c01039180.pdf

    However it doesn't mention the 2nd one, I've never looked at a 530, but on the HP nx8220, nc6320 & 6710b etc.... I usually deal with, they are usually located under the keyboard which is slightly more difficult & depends on your confidence.

    Hope that helps . . . .

    also, x-ref the results of the crucial scanner with cpu-z (google to find a download site) to check you're ordering the right kit. Many places to get cheap memory from, and don't forget quidco :)

    p.s. ref memory slots under the keyboard - some can be very easy to get to (if I remember rightly, hp/compaq are easy, other brands can be more fiddly), and shouldn't pose too much in the way of problems..

  • thanks fr the help i used the crucial scanner as suggested and this is the result

    do i just go ahead now and order the memory from that site?

    According to the scan you appear to have 1.5GB already installed whereas you said you only had 512mb in your first post:confused:

    what you need to do is to note the type and spec of RAM, then shop around for that spec...e.g. DDR PC-2700, non-ecc, unbuffered, 2-3-3-4 shows the type, speed and clocking that you need...so shop on the spec and hunt down the bargains :)

    so, from your scan above, you need a SODIMM (laptop style) DDR2 PC2-5300 1GB stick of RAM...quick look shows not much price variation, all around £12, and if you make a note of the crucial pt. no, then go through quidco, I think it's 7% cashback too :)

    just one word of advice....when you get it, make sure you replace the 512MB stick from your lappy, not the existing 1GB stick :rolleyes:

    If you've already got 1.5GB installed, and it will only take 2GB, there will be very little performance difference. However if you want to go ahaed, it says the 512 is in bank 1. This is usually the top one (at least it was in my case), although if in doubt, it should state on each memory chip what size it is.

    this is a good point, esp if running XP, but you maybe will see a small improvement with Vista. You'd notice a bigger difference by giving it a good old spring-clean using CCleaner, disk cleanup (remember to also clean out the backup/shadow copies, will save you GBs of disk space) and defraggler more likely, and stopping all those unneeded programs from running on start-up :)

    thanks for the advice i'm not sure how much of the 1.5gb ram is left, is there a way to find out how much ram i have left to use?
