Simply Be/Reliable Collections Fraud Help

  • I wish I had found this thread a long time ago. I am in exactly the same position as you with Simply Be and Co. I moved house & area in August 2008 and in March 2009 a fraudulent account was set up from my previous address. Goods must have been signed for there but as my general post was subject to a redirection i started getting letters from Simply be. I did everything you did - went to the police and got a log number not a crime number as the offence is against simply be not me - and then was harassed by various debt agencies . one particularyl aggressive DCA then changed all the details on the fraudulent account to my actual details when I contacted them by phone to point out the differences. i have recieved numerous letters from DCAs threatening various actions, ihave sent written confirmation to Simply Be et al including my original tenancy agreement which they say they have never receieved. I got Experian to act on my behalf but they came back with the same advice and could not help. I have contacted Mackenzie Hall DCA again today after receivnig a letter offering me a standing order to pay the reduced amount of £149 from £199 - for goods that I believe originally totalled £20.00. At no point have Simply be contacted the originator of the debt even though they have her phone numbers.
This has made me ill and detrimentally affected my credit rating. Mackenzie hall tell me that it is now 'under investigation'. Hmm. I will follow the letter writing advice earlier in this thread but I will not give in! Maybe you could update me with how you have got on? thanks:A
  • Simply Be is part of JD Williams & Company Limited.

According to their entry on the FSA website you can send a complaint to:

    pippa.dutton@jdwilliams.co.uk

Once received, they have eight weeks to respond, then you can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service if necessary (free). They will take on your individual complaint if you explain that it relates to a credit agreement that they claim you entered into but you did not.

The OFT will not normally help because it does not look at individual complaints.

Hi Laura. Sorry to hear of your problems and sorry to have a go at you. But why did you not post for advice BEFORE paying those scumbags ?
