Basically I have been with e-on for electricity ONLY (we have no gas; nearest supply is 2-miles away) for over 5-years now.
About 2-yrs ago we reduced our DDs since we were over paying and had over £100 credit.
Last year we raised the monthly DD since our consumption had gone up as well as the rates.
About 12-mths ago I went to e-billing.
I call up today to explore possibilities of a lower tariff only to be told we are on a gas tariff...!?
My meter is electric, the source and meter code are for an electric meter. There is nothing on the bill to say it is gas, not even the conversion formula.
I read the meter monthly.
Will I be expected to pay for e-on's incompetance?

If you really are on a gas tariff you will have been paying about a quarter of what you should have been paying. What have your annual bills been like. An all electric house with heating would likely be over £1000 per annum.
What amount are you paying per kwh.
As there is no conversion from units to kwh it does not sound like a gas tariff.

Hi Harry Plopper,
This is a strange scenario, and not one that happens very often.
In effect you have been paying a gas unit price for every unit of electricity you’ve used, so when E.ON corrects the bill they’ll definitely be a lot of catch up charges.
E.ON have no choice but to correct the billing, they are legally obliged to do so, whether you’ll have to pay the corrected bill is debatable, but you certainly have grounds to dispute this.
