Mortgage Valuation Surveys

Hi
Could anyone let me know how the banks do mortgage valuations nowadays?
Do they have to come in the home or can they just do a drive by valuation & compare prices sold in the area?
Its just that we got told that the mortgage valuation survey that is getting done for our flat that we are selling was getting done end of last week but it never did so Im wondering if they did a drive by one as they never came into the home.
Its Abbey National
It would be good to hear form you .

From my experience it is normal for them to come into the home, we've had a couple recently with Abbey and they definitely went into the property.Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

Thank you.
Im glad you have replied.
We are waiting for Abbey National to come to our home to have the survey done for the buyers.
Did they take a long time to come out & do yours?
Our solicitors are sitting waiting for the mortgage offer because everything else is done but Abbey are being slow. Our Estate Agents phoned the mortgage advisor & they said it was going to get done end of last week but it didnt.
Is it the buyers who will be the only ones that can push them to get it done? Do you know?
Its getting very frustrating
We sold beginning of July.0 -
I'm an EA, at the moment I think Abbey have a backlog, we've certainly been waiting a while for some to get done on our properties. It is the buyers who are the main ones who can push it forward, but your EA putting pressure on can also help. If they keep ringing the mortgage advisor, the mortgage advisor will ring the lender but really, Abbey are very slow at the moment so I wouldn't worry too much! How long has it been so far?Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

We sold 3rd week of July.
I just dont get why the mortage advisor said it was going to get done end of last week but it never.
Its getting quite upsetting now
I do keep phoning the estate agents because their the only contact I have but I dont want them to think that Im blaming them.
They have told the buyers they need to keep contacting them but this was end of last week.
Are the sellers allowed to contact the buyers atall?
The buyers are the ones who wanted us out by the end of August.0 -
The mortgage advisor isn't the one who will arrange the survey, so not really sure why or how they would be the ones who know. Ask your EA if they have had the access call from the surveyor, if they haven't, then chances are that it is still waiting to be assigned to a surveyor, or the buyers haven't paid for it. You can contact the buyers, but unless they have given you their details direct, the EA won't pass them on. The EA may pass a message on for them to ring you, but they cannot give you a number because of Data Protection.Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

Having been in the same situation as your buyers, I can assure you that as long as your buyer has given Shabbey all the information that they require ( a large and every changing list of bits of paper, required at random and un-related intervals), there is not much else they can do. I had my financial advisor shouting at abbey, he knowing far more useful people in the kafka-esque bureaucracy that masquerades as Shabbeys mortgage department than I could. Fortunately, my buyer was also using the same financial advisor, which made life easier. I managed to route the ever more plaintive whining of my vendors estate agent to my estate agent, since my vendors estate agent appeared to be labouring under the utterly incorrect impression that I had some mystical god-like power to make things happen.
So, I would suggest you don’t contact your buyers directly – they are probably just as frustrated as you. There where a number of occasions when I came very close to telling the vendor to insert his property in an anatomically inappropriate location......:mad:0 -
We thought Abbey has a backlog too after reading the forum, thus was prepared for the long wait when the mortgage adviser informed us end of last week that the survey will hopefully be done this week. Was in abit of shock today as we just received the mortgage details with the valuation survey done through the post!!0

Princessamy86 & Axomoxia.
Thank you ever so much for your replies.
As far as I know it was the mortgage advisor who my estate agents spoke to who said it was going to be done last week.
The buyers are ready & waiting. They have paid for the survey & the deposits ready.
By the way Im trying to hide from Barnaby-bear so will try & stay on this post with you:D:D:D:D.

You've only asked this question on two different threads and once wasn't very coherent and a hijacking - whereas asking this question here seemed sensible. Asking it again on more isn't productive as people repeat each other and get annoyed as it seems you are just trying to get the answer you want to hear... this question seems same enough but have the courtesy to those who've replied not to ask it again in random places... I'm guessing this is the first time you've sold or rented and are a little panicky.0 -
