neighbours building work.. Where do we stand if our house damaged

hi all

Just looking for a bit of advise, woke up this morning to find that neighbour is having his gutters and facias done. We live in a semi and he is a attached neighbour.
I cant see any company labeled up van and to be honest i wouldnt use the builders as they dont look right if you know what i mean.

So say the worse happens and our house is damaged where do we go,, we cant afford the work ourself and our gutters and facia are in good condition so i wouldnt fall for thqt one, and last time i looked the rof looked fine.
?

We dont have a too bad relationship with neighbour although got worse recently, after we found out he had cut or out let pipe caseing water damage to our house.

Aany help would be great, hopefully nothing will happen, my hubbbys tring to get some sleep as he works nights not easy with generator going

Many thanks

Liz

You can't live your life worrying about what might happen. There are too many variables in life that you can't have an action plan for everything that may go wrong. Why not relax, let the work get done then go and look at it. No point getting stressed for something that will probably be fine.

As for unmarked vehicles, i have seen loads of companies that do that. Doesn't mean they are any better or worse than each other.

I sort of agree with lagi :D, but in my experience, and others, I feel that I too would worry, as I have seem things damaged, mistakes happen, and just sheer bloody carelessness.

Now whether you think I am over the top or not, but I always take pics now, I take them before and after, and thanks to my over worrying, the pics has done me favours.

    Give you an example......

I had to let the waterboard go into my back garden, nothing to do with me, but my immediate neighbour, but they had to look under my patio, cant remember the fine details, but it was something to do with a leak he had.

I fought and fought, as I didnt want my patio torn up, but apparently by law I have to let them , I have a nice patio, the usuale table, chairs, pots, and my little ornaments, and not forgetting Gnorris and Gneville, my two tacky 3ft Gnomes :o
They assured us (ha) that they would be very careful, and of course replace or put the patio back the way it was.

Something told me to take pics on the morning they were to arrive, (women's intuition perhaps) so I did, and thank god I did.

They broke some of my pots, a couple of ornaments went missing, (thankfully Gnorris and Gneville wasnt touched) ;) they had moved the table and chairs, and left them in a heap on the grass.
They did some damage to my patio, and was a nightmare getting them back to sort it
A pair of steps went missing, ( I didnt take a pic of those), and the broke some of my bedding plants around my borders.
One of my fence panels had a big hole in it, as though someone had fallen against it.

Without the pics it would have been thier word against mine, luckily it got sorted out very quickly.
I just knew that it wouldnt go as smooth as they made out, so I took the pics of everything that they would have come in contact with.
The thing is, it wasnt even my problem, it was next doors, yet it was my garden that got turned over.

So now, anyone coming in, or working next door, I am anxious, as this is not the first time that other people have damaged my property, and I would rather be safe than sorry.
  • thankyou for the replys will take pics

My hubby went over to see the couple last night as they had left the house in a state. They had been quoted for replacement gutters, but guess what they needed new facias and apparently there is asbestos in theor roof space,
. Then the health and safety offical tued upp as they where using ladders not scafolding. This work is going to take to the weelend at least. The neighbours have advised us to take the kids out during the work, so off out today but tommorow s school and nursery runs so around.
The couple are very uupset and distressed as its costing a lot more then qouted. Wife is very ill normmally and they where upset with the lack of health and safty. They are not here yet. I hope for our neighbours sake they do come back, as last night with the thunder storm some of his tiles have slipped.

Thanks again will keep you updated
