Dentist costs for someone on state pension?

Hi,

My mother is a pensioner, getting her state pension, she has been to the dentist a couple of times and been charged the same as me (26y/o full time employement).

My partners mother is adament that she, in the same circumstances as my mother, gets reduced price dental care.

Can any body shed any light on this, had a quick google around but couldn't turn anything up.

Thanks,

I believe that pensioners in Wales are entitled to reduced price/free dental checkups. In England, pensioners can only get help towards their NHS dental care if they receive the Guaranteed Credit element of Pension Credit.

See page 19 of the HC11 leaflet imbedded in this link

    http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/family_parent/health/help_with_health_costs.htm#helpwithdentaltreatment

I don't know, but I guess if they are in private rather than NHS practice then individual dentists could choose to offer reductions to OAPs if they wanted ?

go for the advice that the o/p gave.

i dont know about wales, but in england age ALONE does not affect what you pay for your dental treatment

I pay full charges for my dental treatment as a pensioner but do think I should get a bit of a discount as I have a fair few missing now:rotfl:

I work as a dental receptionist in Scotland. As other posters have said age doesn't come in to it unfortunately, it's all down to income really unless she is pregnant which I am guessing is not the case :) If your mother receives pension credit then she can apply for exemption, as is the case if she receives any form of tax credits or income based benefits.
