Resently purchased a TV. The Samsung screens are one of the best on the market.

    But the speakers are RUBBISH.

I bought a Sony and have been very pleased with it.

There are differences, as noted in the specification on the links you posted. For example, the most expensive is 200Hz which will give better rendition of movement. Whether those features are worth the extra wonga (to you), only you can decide.

Other than minor cosmetic differences (slightly different size and colour), the 6000 is a 100Hz set with no networking capability (not sure about USB), the 7020 brings ethernet connectivity (and wireless with an optional £50 dongle) which allows DLNA access to files on PC's and NAS devices and some internet connectivity. You can view flickr accounts and YouTube amongst other things. The 8000 has all of that and 200Hz technology. The DLNA capapbility is very useful if you think you will want to watch downloaded video or stuff saved to PC from a PVR.

Bear in mind that these are sidelit LED screens as opposed to backlit. Sidelighting doesn't really offer any significant picture quality improvement over standard backlighting, but does allow for a much slimmer cabinet. So you pay a significant premium for the slimness.

No LCD or Plasma TV provides particularly brilliant sound quality from the internal speakers. Our final shortlist was down to Sony and Samsung and we didn't find one any better or worse than the other with respect to sound quality. We eventually chose a Samsung (B650) and are very happy with our choice.

  • If you go to the Samsung site it lets you do a direct comparison between the different models.
I bought a 40" Samsung LCD last year and very pleased with it.

The Samsungs have glossier, more reflective, panels than the Sonys.

    (Ducks, to avoid missiles.)

Aren't some of the Samsungs now oLED instead of LCD? Or are all of them now oLED?

Some of the Sonys definitely are.

Thanks Fifer; useful info - as always. :money:
