Adding a lock up garage to home contents insurance.

Hi,

I have the chance to buy a lock up garage two miles from home. As a general rule would it be possible to insure the contents (expected £500 approx) to my home insurance.

Anyone any experience.

It is very unusual for a Home Insurer to cover the contents of a lock up garage away from your home. This is because they define what they are covering as contents as being within the boundaries of your home.

It would be worth asking your Insurer anyway as sometimes exceptions can be made, however if they do confirm its covered I strongly recommend you ask them to confirm it in writing so there are no problems if you make a claim as it would be highly unusual for them to agree to cover it
