Phoneline reconnection for less than ten months?

Hey,
I'm living in a rented house until June next year. The house been around for a while, and for some reason the phoneline has been disconnected at the exchange. I don't need a phoneline, but I do need Internet access, and seems I can't have broadband without it (well, I could, but it's hardly worthwhile). We've tried both BT and Virginmedia but they want to charge us reconnection fees of 122 and 120 pounds respectively, which would almost double the cost of our phoneline and broadband given the length of time we'll be living there.
Does anyone have any advice about how to get out of or minimise this cost?

There is BT's 'New line free connection offer' but that's on an 18 month contract and you have to make 10 calls via BT each month.
Alternatively you could try connecting to the web via mobile broadband. You don't need a mobile phone to get connected either as these packages come supplied with a modem that takes its place.

If you take the BT Free Connection Offer, and the Unlimited Weekend Plan and make 10 inclusive weekend calls a month.

You could reduce the cost as the cancellation fee would be 9 months x £7.50= £67.50, as opposed to £125 up front.
"If the customer decides to end the contract within the 18 month minimum term, they will incur a single charge of £7.50(on the Unlimited Weekend and Unlimited Evening & Weekend plans) or £8.00(on the Unlimited Anytime plan) for each month left of the minimum term."0
