are you sure he rang the number you said? Did he tell you he rang that number or did you see, press redial?

Only reason i ask is, this is a common scam in that the caller will dial a premuim number, not the number you think he was ringing.

They're from a marketing company whose salesmen work on 100% commision. I went for an interview with them but did'nt persue it,prefering to remain out of work as I did'nt think it was a viable employment option.
They were probably employed by this lot:

I got a job a couple weeks later only to be laid off 5 months later!

Works here. Maybe once or twice I get some tart from TalkTalk or the "Electricty Board".

I'm polite to the bleached hair/toothed (always are for some reason) TalkTalk girl but the EB scammer get's a full force -but politely asked- "Why are you chapping my !!!!ing door?".

    Otherwise, perfect.

I had a sign by the front door for several years but didn't bother to stick it back up last Summer after I had the outside of the house repainted. It didn't really work as when I pointed it out to unwanted callers they invariably said "sorry, didn't notice it" !!Short of a huge billboard .........
To be fair as I'm in a cul de sac at the bottom of a hill I don't get too many callers anyway.
  • Does anyone know the outcome of this scam? What are they after is it just a premium rate number? Or are they controlling the line/ stealing data? Really want to know as it has just happened to me.

Feel really stupid and annoyed falling for it. Keep thinking how they done it and reminds me of Derren Brown mind control. There were 2 of them and straight away they started bombarding me with questions around the same story already mentioned. Funny thing is I know about this technique it is designed to confuse the person and makes them suggestible. But even knowing this, I still got scammed!

Something I noticed, when one of them dialled the number on my phone, the other was on a mobile device and they made a comment "they were seeing if they could find out the answer quicker". Think this will be part of the scam and I wonder if anyone else noticed it?

If anyone has information, I would be very grateful.
  • my friend has one of these unfortunate jobs and it is just talk you into moving to talk talk.
When they ring this number it just tells them the best speed of the broadband for your area after you give them your no and postcode. anyone can look at these stats online.
ive jst had one of the guys at my house thismorning, very nice fella and well spoken, he was a bit surprised when i told him i work for the local governments IT and we're trying to role out our own service so there is broadband in our area, which is totally free without signing up to other phone services. - theres is only free if u switch to their phone plan.
i feel sorry for the cold callers, commission only is hard to live on if no1 gives in
