USA & Australia with a criminal record.

Sorry to start another thread on this but..............
Me and my partner want to travel to the USA and Australia next year to visit family.
My partener has a conviction from 3 year ago for harrasment for which she recieved 100 hours community service.
We want to do things legally and above board as we actually know someone who got caught in America after answering no on his Visa Waiver, they did find out he had a criminal record!
What are our chances and what is the process for being admitted into these countires. We've seeked a little advice but if our chances are basically zero we wont bother wasting the money and applying.
One further point - my partner actaully filled in a visa waiver online and mistakenly answered no to the criminal conviction question. This was several months ago, before we actually realised we would be needing a visa. Would this pose any problems when applying for a visa in the future?
Thanks in advance!

Im pretty sure it was section 2.0

However, even if you have been arrested you also have to apply? I was arrested for a suspected stolen tax disc in my car, I was cautioned however it was a simple !!!! up on my part by putting the wrong tax disc in the wrong car!0

I thought having a conviction was a neccessity before they allow you into Australia0

Me too!
If we do go through the route of applying for a visa and are granted one, how long are they good for?0 -
dinkydog - who decides if it moral turpitude? Is the guy on customs likely to know if harrassment falls into this category or not? Ive had alook on the internet and it is very vague as to what it actually covers. After looking on the US Embassy site it states that any arrest or record that you must apply for a Visa.
I'm very confused!0 -
The US visa is valid for one year.If you wish to revoke the previous application just apply again and apparently a new application cancels out the old application.mrmichaelf wrote: »Me too!

I think if you admit to lying on the Visa Waiver form, you are in trouble... unless you can explain it as a mistake.0

There is a thread running today on the Orlando forum at trip advisor
http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g34515-i19-k3069671-Sent_Home-Orlando_Florida.html
where basically the person was sent straight back more for lieing on the form than for the original crime.0 -
I just got back from New York, I was there for a week. When I arrived at the airport they searched my bags and they guy was like "how long will you be staying in the US for?" and I said a week and he said "why have you packed so many Q-Tips then?" (I had about 20). Crazy!0
