Redundancy whilst pregnant, with loans to repay (payment Protection)

Hi there, I was wondering whether anyone could help me.
My partner has been made recently redundant and is 3 months pregnant. She was not given any maternaty money as the redundancy was announced before the pregnancy was discovered.
The problem is, he has loans which need to be repaid, which may not be a problem as she has payment protection insurance, which we have been assured covers redundancy (Although having worked in Credit Cards, i kno its a minefield of sorts) however, the problem is, in order to claim on the insurance she needsto be actively seeking emloyment and on JSA.
Now, having read a few of the posts here regarding JSA and pregnancy, it seems like its going to be as much of a nightmare as i had feared.
We are yet to go to the jobcentre and talk to them about this, but i was wondering whether anyone has had any past experience with this, or whether there is any advice on what we can do, who we an see etc.
I myself own a small business, and times are hard. I am worried that we will not cope on our own, and that no one will want to help us with repaying the loan, or even living on a day to day basis. (i dont have much faith in the system to be honest.Very dog eat dog)
Any thougts or advice will be greatly appreciated, and if there is anything i have left out, then please ask and i will fill in the blanks.
Thanks in advance!
Travis
