If you live near to a currys or comet store (or similar), why not pop in and have a play with the cameras on display. You will soon find out which ones suite you best.Never Knowingly Understood.

That's quite similar to the one my wife has, but hers uses AA batteries. Bought just over 12 months ago it has taken hundreds of photos. She has just replaced the second set of the new lithium type AA batteries she was given as part of the deal so it's not power hungry.
Doesn't give bad results either and it's small enough to take with her everywhere.0 -

Budget?
Couldn't recommend the Canon's high enough.0 -
I just got one from Argos, £69.99 for a 12MP and you get half price 4GB memory card as well, (£9.99 reduced from £19.99)0

At that price level I believe 12mp will be trying to squeeze itself onto a tiny sensor... Unless you are going to print above A4 size pictures it's not worth looking solely at megapixels

12MP on a compact is a complete waste of time, it's all marketing hype.
Go for a quality camera with a good lens and features you need such as stabilisation and a the zoom range required.
You always get what you pay for with cameras.
You can't buy a decent compact for under £150 IMO, the pictures resolved by cheap lenses and miniature sensors are a waste of time.0 -

it's only to put the pics on to the computer, not to print, don't think anyone prints anymore now we have facebook
