Hi All

I'm looking to buy Snow Leopard for one computer. Apple is selling it for £25 and Amazon for £22.50. Anyone found any better bargains?

Thanks in advance.

Given that Windows 7 Ultimate Edition is some £160, £22 for Mac OS X 10.6 seems like a good deal to me.

Yes, but it's a much more minor update. Snow Leopard will be worth having - espeially as its smaller and (in theory) quicker - but it won't be exactly revolutionary. My guess is that most users will hardly notice the difference.

It sounds like Windows 7 will be much more of a step forward, and will fix a lot of what was wrong with Vista. That;s what MS say, anyway...

I agree that there was a lot more to fix with Vista than there was with Leopard, but Windows 7 is a minor update too. Vista was Windows 6.0, Windows 7 is Windows 6.1.

A lot of Snow Leopard's improvements are under the hood, but it's still the latest OS from Apple, just as Windows 7 is the latest OS from Microsoft (or it will be). Both are evolutionary updates.

Your guess is wrong: I've installed it and you notice the difference immediately. Everything is much snappier. That, alone makes it remarkably well worth the £25 price; even more so, the £40 price of the 5-user version.

(And, personally, I don't give a damn how large or small it is.)

It's hardly Apple's fault that so little needs fixing with OS 10.5.8 and how much needs fixing in Viagra! Quite the opposite: Apple should be congratulated for having got so much right and Microsoft should be castigated for getting so much wrong. It's ironic that this means Microsoft can now extort so many times more money from its hapless users than Apple for getting its operating system to work properly.

you will NOT get it cheaper then the amazon price (+shipping i guess) and anyway.... £25 for an operating system?! that is a fantastic price for something apple could be cheeky with and charge £60 for it :)

as leopard has proven - you can install fresh to a clean hard disk (which is what i will be doing) so not really a patch disk at all :)

I wont do a Scrilla and assume you're referring to me. :rotfl:

I'm sure by "leopard" you mean Mac OS 10.5. ;)

If you're prepared to be patient, you could buy it on eBay for a bit less but - MoneySaving or not - it seems mean to deprive Apple of such a small amount of money for such a great piece of software.

The Box Set, however, is another matter entirely...

At £129, I think it's actually pretty good value.

Leopard was £129 when it was released; for the same price, you get Snow Leopard, iLife '09 (which costs £69), and iWork '09 (which also costs £69).

Admittedly, it doesn't compare with the £22.50 standalone version of Snow Leopard, but one would still be getting a lot for the money.

We agreed to differ on that one. ;)

Let's just say that it's excellent value if you aren't already running iLife '08 and iWork '08 on Mac OS 10.4.11 and are perfectly happy with those two. :)
