Hello,

We've lived in our 2 bed flat (2 adults no children) for a year now and want to switch from British Gas who we use for both Electric and Gas.

We have looked on comparison sites and still don't know how to work out whether we are better off staying out or moving to a different supplier.

I have an up to date gas reading but they come out to read the Electric. which is outside, themselves.

All I know is with our latest reading we are in credit of £95 for gas and £115 for electric.

We pay £32 per month direct debit for Gas and £24 for Electric.

How did you lot decide whether to switch or stick with BG? I have enjoyed switching the likes of insurance and getting the bonus of cashback so that always helps!

Cheers all, I know someone will be able to help

I would say that sounds like a good price you are currently paying. If you do not know ask BG for your yearly use (not amount you pay) and put this into comparison sites to make an informed decision. Also check out BG's other tariffs if you are on the standard one ( such as websaver4).

Thanks, I don't even know what tariff we are on! There was so much to sort out when we moved in last year that we basically just phoned and they asked all the questions and told us what our payments would be... I've got an online login with them but didn't join on the internet, everything was done over the phone.

Can anyone tell me what happens to the 'credit'? I remember speaking to someone at BG saying they either let it roll or credit you back? Also as it's been a year (next week) will they reduce the direct debit payments considering we are in over £200 credit after a year?

Apologies for the boring questions, just thought someone might know. I have asked British Gas but depending on who you speak to there always seems to be a completely different answer!

Would be nice to get the credit paid back then move to a new supplier

Sounds like you are a low user, Ironman. Try Ebico, tho no cashback and no discounts. An ethical company. Simple bills no confusion marketing.
You will get a refund from BG. Your new supplier will do the transfer, just give them the readings.

Once you are with Ebico, Ironman, no reason, after a while, to move temporally for cashback via Quidco, as long as you return. This keeps Ebico in business and ethical and a thorn in the side of the confusers. Win Win.
