Barclays have taken my Bank Card??

I have had an overdraft facility for some time, and i'm usually up to my limit on the OD. I've recently moved and in two weeks time my first rental payment is due to be taken from my account. On Saturday I used an HSBC Casepoint and the machine said, there was no response from the card issuer and the card had been retained.
I'm going to see Barclays tomorrow, the problem being that if they have decided to recall my OD it means that my wages for the next two weeks will be used to pay this. At that time my first rental payment for the new property is due.
Does anyone have any experience with this situation and am I right in thinking that they've decided to recall my OD facility? or could this be a possible mistake.
If they have decided to recall the OD facility, do I have the right to come to arrangement with them with a timescale to repay the OD or will they expect it ASAP.
Thanks in advance.

Do you have phone banking or internet banking. You could probably ring and try and get this sorted out today. Barclays should have contacted you if they were going to withdraw the overdraft and retain your card. Have you had any communication from them either in writing or by phone?
Its not possible to say whether they will let you repay the overdraft in instalments as you will really need to contact them ASAP and explain the situation.
It could be a glitch in the machine. Try the telephone or internet banking at least that will give you some idea of what the problem is.
If the Bank have withdrawn your OD you would probably be better off opening a Basic account straight away and getting your next pay cheque paid into that so that you can at least pay your rent and you can then arrange an instalment plan with Barclays, without them clawing all your wages.

Well, if there was a problem with your account, barclays would have contacted you, just because you were near your OD limit, doesnt mean that is reason to take your card. Did you enter the correct PIN at the ATM? You should call telephone banking and just ask them.0

From the tone of your post you are assuming it's been witheld deliberately so do we assume you've had a few account management problems ? It could be a simple, but frustrating error. It does happen !
'Your' card always remains the property of the bank and it can be withdrawn at any time, just as your OD facility can be, HOWEVER the removal of the OD (account problems or not) should not leave you in a position that you cannot afford basic needs.
Obviously you'll be explaining this to them tomorrow and possibly trying to extend the facility for longer if possible, (until you can make other arrangements) but their reaction will obviously depend on your account management.
If you do have problems it might be wise to take the above advice and open an additional account elsewhere before Barclays 'take' your wages.0 -
My Mum's card was swallowed by NatWest a few months ago with a similar message. I shouldn't worry about it unduly. She ordered a new card, job done.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

The card could have been retained because of a block on the card or because there was a fault with the machine. There's only one way to find out, phone Telephone Banking!0
