Block booking driving lessons

I know that block lessons are good, as it gives a discount.

I am booking 8 hours (i.e. 2 hours a week which equates to 8 hours in total a month).

Does the driving instructor know that when I book block lessons, it covers the whole month? This means I am paying a one of fee for the month.

I hope block lessons are worked out that way.

I hope you guys can help/explain.

  • I too am looking at doing the same as you are. All of the instructors I have spoken too have said that I would book the block I.E 10 hours at dates and times to suit me and pay the money when i book them all.

Not sure what you mean about covering the whole month, surely it just covers 8 hours, doesn't matter if you take those 8 hours in a week or in 2 months.

I took lessons with BSM and paid for my lessons in blocks of 10 hours (I think, might have been 20), then took the lessons at dates and times of my choosing.

btw I see people complaining about BSM on here, but I had no problems, and got zero faults in the test so the instructor must have been good!

Don't confuse booking with paying. Booking only means reserving diary space in your instructor's diary, which oddly enough, a lot of people seem reluctant to do as they think they're obliged to pay for them all. You can "book" as many lessons as you like up front (a hundred well into next year if you want), but are only committed to paying for them as you take them, or paying per 'block' of pre-booked lessons as each arrives, as the case may be. Remember you can always cancel a booking by giving the instructor plenty of notice, then you won't have to pay for it.

Yes, 8 hours taken over 4 weeks sounds reasonable. Do I assume that you don't want to pay for the 9th hour before the month end (if the month has five Tuesdays, for example)? If so, just tell your instructor and work out a frequency of lessons that suits you both. Remember he's not a mind reader and may think you want 2 hour lessons every week, even if there are 5 "weeks" in the month. Build in little gaps in the schedule to take account of this if you only want to make one block payment per month. Taking your diary with you on your lessons will be a big help.

I want to learn with BSM too. They are getting new cars towards the end of the year!

Anyway, back to the block lessons. I want to book 8 hours due to budgeting issues. So basically, when I book block lessons, I just choose when to use those hours? In my case, it's 2 hours each a week on a Monday (equating to 8 hours a month). Or maybe someone could do 4 hours this month, then another 4 next month, and that kind of thing...

If you are going via a school then you usually pay the school and then the instructor gets a note of how many credits you have and you book as and when you want with him.
I used to buy around £180 of lessons at a go for my son, he would then arrange the next lesson each time he finished one, sometimes he might book two or three in advance but he and the instructor arranged it between them.

If you book with a sole trader then you just make whatever arrangement with him that he is happy with.
