leaking kitchen tap - help

hi,please can someone help.i have a kitchen mixer tap,which is leaking.it is now a steady trickle.i have tried opening the tap but it is very stiff,and haven't been able to do it.any suggestions,first how to open it,and then what to do with it

    First thing to establish is if it is a conventional tap, opens with several rotations, or a ceramic disk type that opens with a quarter turn.
    O and just to confirm its not from the swivel joint on the mixer arm.
    That gum you like is coming back in style.
