Low Profile Website

Hi
After asking fro help here some time back I finally got my two web sites up & running. (One for my husbands swim school & one for holiday apartments that my friend has in Crete.- Thank you Browntoa)
However neither website comes up on the search facility. The Crete one is beginning to be a slightly better know because it has been talked about on holiday chat forums but people are trying to search for an approximate name etc & just not finding it. As far as I know no-one has ever looked at the swim school website.


Does anyone have any ideas how i can raise their profile a bit & get up picked up by the search engines, plus any other way we could raise the profile really.

Assuming you don't wnt to pay per click then...

What you are talking about is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

This has become fairly complicated in recent years and some people make a living out of doing this! For this reason I'm not going to list the entire conformity documents for all the major search engines.

However, here are some brief guidelines:

- Make sure every page has a title that is relevant to the content on that page.
- Don't get too hung up on keywords, they have much less influence than they used to.
- Links are important both in and out of your site.
- Make sure the site isn't too image intensive and ensure any images also have text ALT tags
- Many ratings are now based on 'Authority'. This means that you are ranked well if your page is considered to be an 'authority' on the subject.

However, if you do a search for the phrase you should get some more tips for making your site, search engine friendly.

I am not sure. Do I ? Does that mean I pay more or someone pays me ? I dont want to pay more really as I dont benefit from the site in any way, other than a warm glow from making a few greek apartment owners slightly better off.
My websites honestly dont look bad & work quite well for a woman who has no idea what she is doing.

No you probably don't want to pay, it's mostly for businesses.

Follow some of the guidelines in this thread and pushing the site wherever you can. This should get the visitors up.
