Can he be made redundant if his job is changed?

The other people who will become 'general accounts' people don't seem to have to be fighting for their job, they are just being given new job descriptions0

Okay, there may be an acceptable reason for this (and there may not).
One acceptable reason might be that they will be doing more or less the same as they did before, perhaps taking on additional duties, so their jobs haven't ceased to exist, quite the opposite, their roles have expanded.
Also, are these people on a different grade to OH? It might be that these people are lower down the food chain and do more general work anyway, in which case OH can't compare his work to theirs.
Of course if OH has a colleague who is in a similar position - in a defined role doing a fairly autonomous job - whose position has been rubbed out of the organisational structure, but who has been given an alternative role in the company that OH could have done, and would have wanted to apply for, then that might be different. (I'm hesitating, because at this stage it gets difficult to comment without knowing all the facts).
Has OH spoken to ACAS? You will find your local office in the phone book. They give free information about employment rights and would be able to discuss this situation with OH in more detail.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
When my oh was off for 6 weeks his supervisor covered the bare minimum of his job. The other roughly 6 people in the accounts range from a part time lowly position up to Accounts manager, everyone is on differing levels to answer your question
After his next meeting which is tomorrow, I think he's going to speak to ACAS

hmmmm.....
That does sound a bit suss on the face of it....
I'm glad he is going to speak to ACAS - they will be able to go into much more detail than is possible on an internet forum.
Good luck, and do let us know how he gets on

Thanks Daisy
I know my oh is good at his job because I used to be his supervisor years ago, lol. I hope he will call ACAS, he's quite shy and prefers sticking his head in the sand, hence me posting here.
