PS3 broken :(

I bought my PS3 in Dec 2007 and it has packed in a few weeks ago - the console wont read any discs. I have contacted play.com as i thought i would go down the SOGA route as I have only had it a short while and thought expensive consoles need to last longer but they written back stating that i need to prove it was'nt my fault, that the console broke. Does anyone know where to go from here? - how am I meant to prove it wasnt my fault? Thanks in advance

I've just had a friend go down a similar route. All enquiries failed so he ended up with a busted PS3 only about 9 Months out of the 12 Month Warranty period.
I'm sure loads of people will give advice about "Fit for Purpose" etc.. but it will be time consuming and extremely frustrating trying to get an acceptable resolution.
I replaced the Laser for him for £60, less aggravation all round (for him anyway)
I have read that a complete restore can bring them back to life, but it didn't work in my friends case but will be worth trying. Post in the Techy Forum if you need suggestions on trying to fix it.0
