i have one with lloyds and halifax and they are easy as hell to open yuou just do it online and they send you a password and hey presto

with abbey i have to go online fill out and application form

to which they will send it to me to sign and then i have to send it back to them with 2 forms of ID to prove my name and address.

  • there not daft !!! its a very good rate !! so there gonna make u work to get it, fact of life i guess, abbey is like a posh attractive bird, .i.e money talks....bullsxxt walks !!!
    They call me Mr Pig!
  • Are you really suggesting that Lloyds and Halifax are ignoring money laundering laws? Or do you have old accounts with them from before the laws came into effect?

All banks now have to see ID for any new account. I wouldn't say the Abbey esaver is particularly hard to open, just take your ID into a branch when they post the form to you and the account will be open a couple days later. Easy!

They do instant indentity checks with the credit check agencies, so the ID's are not entriely necessary, unless theres a problem with what the credit agencies reply with.

Ive opened accounts with Alliance & Liecester, and Derbyshire without any ID requested.

Yeh, Abbey are fussy, slow, maybe they are tired after openign all these accounts due to the high rates.

I don't agree. I think they're just not exactly the well-oiled mechanism that one would expect them to be. Egg pays a higher rate than the Abbey e-saver, but my wife managed to open an egg account in a week, while I made my first online application on 19-Nov and the account got opened yesterday after dozens of call to the guys there.

    They suck... honestly !!!

  • For the E-Saver can you just bring some id to the nearest Abbey Branch?

even if you have applied online?

    Thanks

Yes you can. But it still has to be sent by the branch to the account opening department, as they don't open these accounts at the branch :(

Does having an existing account with Abbey [and therefore being ID checked already] make a difference to these requirements on their E saver or not?

Well it does - but only to some extent - if you are an existing customer, you need to send only one piece of identification, else you need to send two of them. I am an existing customer, hence sent only one, but you still are exposed to the vagaries of the postal system, and indeed to Abbey's inefficiencies. >:(
