British Gas RC5 Wireless Thermostat - Battery Low?!
I have one of the above and the Battery warning has started to flash. I have removed the unit from the wall and I cannot see that it opens to replace the battery, do I have to replace the unit? Anyone in the industry know how these work?!
I need help as soon we will need to start actually using the heating again and I am a bit worried!
Many thanks
PS I posted this in gas and elec because it is to do with my boiler and I was hoping maybe someone from BG or some engineers might hang around here!
EDIT: all I can find online is this: http://www.heatingcontrolsonline.co.uk/acl-drayton-invensys-digistat-plus-three-wireless-programmable-thermostat-p-97.html
And I'd like to avoid a £100 outlay and possible labour costs for an engineer!!
EDIT 2: Oh it's -28.75 without receiver but still, less than £70 would be good and I can't see why they would make a unit with a non replaceable battery!!

Assuming its the Drayton RF3 then then it takes 4 AA batteries, the covers are on the underside of the unit press to release.
or maybe this one.

ok I can't do it and neither can bf, we've pressed all over. I can now see where the batteries are but nothing seems to just want to pop out. I have taken a pic. Anyone point out where the the cover is meant to come off?
EDIT: Oh and the manual on the website is of no help, thanks Drayton!Kavanne

Turn it face up, and press along the lower edge. There should be two areas that are the outlines of the battery boxes. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Yeah we can see those now but how do we get them out? We press them but nothing happens!Kavanne

Pleased it worked, as advanced students you can now move on to changing the batteries on a Sky+ remote.:beer:That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I have the same problem. I have tried and tried pressing the 2 boxes on the underside in every way I can think of! They go in a little way but do not 'pop out'. There must be a nck to it but I chave not found it yet sadly. Do British Gas have showrooms anymore ?0 -
No showrooms anymore.
It should go in click and pop out.
Try using a very thin blade to prize the battery compartment open, its possible that the battery has swollen.
PS Best to switch off the power to the boiler/controller whilst you do this. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
The only things popping out have been the veins on my forehead LOL.
Actually, I have finally done it! I think your use of the word 'prize' encouraged me to be a bit more 'forcefull' (I was scared of breaking the dam thing!).
Many thanks for your help :T0
