Fibre glass for flat roof?

I have a flat roof extension at the back of my house, last re-covered approx 15 years ago and showing signs of wear and tear. My builder has mentioned fibre glass roofing as a long lasting solution.
Does anyone have any experience of this type of roofing?
He has not given me an exact quote but mentioned a figure of £45 a square metre plus labour for 1-2 days, so I think that will be about £1300 for an 18 sq m area
Any roofers out there? ( I am in East London )

Hi,
Had this done last year on an outbuilding. I prepared (plyed the roof and fixed facias etc) and the guys came an done the fibreglass bit. They used a system called topseal which carrys a 25 year gaurantee and you get a cert from 'topseal' a couple of weeks after install.
The process involved fitting fibreglass upstands around the edges that do not drain, laying the fibreglass matting on the roof with the resin type sealer. After an hour or so they were hand sanding over the whole roof before applying a top coat (colour) to finish.
The top coat was applied a little too quickly for my liking, imagine painting the roof and upstands with a roller a bit too quickly and getting a few too many splashed and drips... However the coating is thick and once dryed and 'flattened off' (dulled) after a couple of weeks, the job looked great
Price was £1000 cash (mine was 18sq metres), but for how long it will last, no idea, but i think it will be an age. It took two guys 1 day.
I looked into felt, rubber etc, but for the little extra i think the fibreglass was definitely worth it!0 -
Thanks monkeypuzzle, don't suppose you are in the London area and could pass on details of your installers?:j0

We`ve sold these kits to approved installers
http://www.curon.co.uk/
I believe the fitted/laid price is in region of £90-£100 per m2
I`m up in Bonny Scotland but I`m sure if you contact Curon direct they`ll give you details of an installer in your area .I`m now officially too old to die young0 -
I live in essex and the guy who done my fibre glass roof also done the roof of bluewater
would you like me to pm you the details? If You See Someone Without A Smile......Give Them One Of Yours0 -
Munkypuzzle, you looked at rubber... I'm expecting to put rubber over some leaking lead flashings/valleys. Some tiny expansion tears in the old lead and the replacement costs are many thousands. Partly due to access. Using liquid rubber could be a very sensible solution.
Can I ask why you went for fibreglass instead of rubber? What were the factors influencing your decision?0 -
Hi,
I was looking at the one piece EPDM sheet for the roof, which is easy to install and carrys a decent guarantee, I didnt consider liquid.. I didnt use it in the end because at the last moment I installed a roof light in the centre of the roof that had an upstand and this made the rubber sheet a much more difficult install and kind of defeated the object of a '1 piece' strectch covering..
The fibreglass installers fore my roof were: http://www.superflatroof.com/
I have to say though, after watching them, i wish i had done the job myself and wouldnt hesitate to take it on in the future,0 -
dear badmumof1 yes please I would love the details....how can you send them to me?0
