water level in toilet cistern may be too high - some questions please

Hello

I think the water level in my cistern may be too high.

Although the level is below the overflow pipe now, I noticed that there is wetness about an inch above the water level, which suggests, that during the day, somehow the water level has risen.
Could this just be condensation though?
If not how has the water level risen an inch and gone back down again?

I live in a second floor flat and want to know if this could cause any structural damage, to my property or the properties below, and also, what could I do to lower the water level.

A plumber came and fitted some new fittings in the toilet cistern for me the other week, but as the flush wasnt enough, he came back out free of charge and adjusted it. I'm wondering whether he has gone a bit too far and adjusted it too high.

I thought I would come on here and ask rather than get a plumber out, and what with it being a bank holiday also.

thank you for your help in advance

sounds like the inlet valve is not shutting off correctly.
as long as the water is not actually overflowing then maybe leave it alone?

I'm worried that it may overflow, what then, will it cause structural damage?
    Please advise asap thanks

worried because I am in a flat and I dont want to cause structural damage to mine or others property
  • IF it did overflow, depending on your set up the water would be directed out of the building or, would run into the pan . Keep your eye on it, and stop worrying. ;)

It's nothing to do with the flush, it's just trickling in through the inlet valve slightly. You said it builds up in the day when I presume it is not used? The same would happen overnight.
It can't leak as it will still escape via the overflow.

You can adjust the ball-c0ck inside the cistern to stop the water level rising too much.
If it is a plastic "arm" there should be a small plastic screw for adjustment.
If it`s the old copper type you need to gently bend it downwards.

Try lifting the "arm" upwards and see if it still drips, if it does change the rubber washer.
