Beetle in Packet of Cashew Nuts

Last week I bought a packet of Big D salted cashew nuts. I had already eaten some when I tipped some nuts out on to my hand and there among the nuts was a large black salted beetle. It was about the same size as a cashew nut and it was hard but very clearly a beetle. I have kept the beetle, the packet and the remaining nuts. I feel I want to complain (because I could easily have eaten the beetle) but should I go back to the (small) shop where I bought the nuts or should I write to the manufacturers? I am not looking for compensation, I just want to stop someone else getting a nasty shock by finding a beetle.

Beetles are good for you - especially the salted variety - very rare and packed with protein.
However, if you do want to complain, then doing so to the manufacturer is the best bet."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

This is the contact page for the Big D nuts. If you write them a polite letter I am sure they will want to know about it! They will probably send you a bag of nuts in the post!
If you want to report them then it is trading standards, but really you should contact them first. There is a freephone number on web page so you can advise them of what has happened and find out how to send the packet and contents.

But what if a CHILD had eaten the beetle???
I just asked for advice, not to be mocked. I am not after compensation, I just want it not to happen again. Maybe a beetle wouldn't do any major harm, but It isn't a pleasant experience. When I buy nuts I expect nuts not a beetle.
Thanks to those who gave constructive advice, I will send the nuts and the beetle back to the company with a polite letter explaining what happened.0 -
Before you send it (if you haven't sent it already) make sure you keep some photographic evidence.
In fact, I would be inclined to write to them, with a photo, but keep the hard evidence for the time being, in case they don't assist and you have to go to Trading Standards or Enviornmental Health or similar.
It is an unfortuante occurance, thankfully it has not happened to me yet, and I am sure it will happen many more times to others.
Good luck though in getting this sorted out0
