USwitch.com & Threats to take me to Court

Can anybody give me some advice? I logged on to Uswitch and took out home insurance. After a month or so, I was not happy as it cost me close to £200 over the year and I found a cheaper policy therefore I cancelled the direct debit. The insurance company have written to me stating that they will take me court for the not paying my premiums which amount to £180.20.

I am not sure they can do this but can someone please offer me some advice as the letter states they will affect my credit rating and prevent me from obtaining credit and a mortgage in the future.

They can, you took out a 12 month policy, they are entitled to the money you owe them.

Have you confirmed to them you are cancelling or have you just cancelled the direct debit?

Their cancellation charges should be in their terms and conditions or the policy

This is a common missunderstanding, You bought a year policy and spread the payments - you did not buy monthly policies.

They will win in court, they can place you on the credit reporting agencies and you signed and agreed this in the credit aplication.

Again and again, people do things without reading the legal contract that goes with the product or service they are buying then complain when the conditions THEY agreed to come back and bite them. Please read contracts people!
