Question about an offer on an item

Hi there, I hope someone can help me.

I'm fairly new to Ebay, have sold and bought a few things but still unsure about some things.

I'm selling a used mobile phone of which I started today, someone has just sent me a message via Ebay asking if I would accept a certain amount for it and to call them on a mobile number or one ring them to confirm if this is ok?? I don't want to accept what they're offering anyway but just thought this was a bit strange to ask to contact them by phone rather than through Ebay?

I might be being a bit over cautious but on the other hand don't want to seem niave! As it is I will just be messaging back to say I'm not accepting but just wondered if this was normal?

Thanks in advance.

Some people target new ebayers specifically on items like mobiles to either get a cheaper price or to scam. If they want you to contact them via mobile it sounds dodgy and also like they may be trying something off ebay. To me it screams scam.

Personally I would be ignoring them and putting them on my blocked bidders list. I very rarely except any offers before the end of the auction as to me it normally means that I will get more money letting the auction run.

Its your decision in the end though. I do hope as you are selling a mobile that you have your seller preferences set tight and that you will be sending by an appropriate tracked postage method with enough insurance

Exactly as cyberbob states but also put your seller preference to UK bidders only.

AS a new seller you might want a quick read of this thread, it does cover mobile phones:
