Planning a holiday around Legoland

I was wondering if some kind peeps on here would enlighten me how to get the best value for money with regards going on holiday featuring a visit to Legoland
From the glance I've had over the MANY posts on Legoland, lol, would I be right in saying using my Tesco Clubcard points would be one of the best ways of getting cheap entry?
Also, when it comes to accomodation are the Travelodges the best way to go? I saw something about £10 rooms but when I checked the Travelodge site it offerred me a family room for £26 a night. That's still really good though and I guess the £10 rooms are single only?
Also, I'm hoping you might be able to tell me what else we could do in the area? My boys are 4 and 9 months but will be 4 and a half and 1 year old by the time we're thinking of going.
I really appreciate any advice anyone could give me on this. Wasn't planning a holiday at all this year as can't really afford it but if it wasn't going to cost the earth I could try really hard to save for it.
Thanks in advance

Tesco clubcard vouchers is probably the best way to do it. Under 3's dont pay anyway. I think your youngest is probably too young to really enjoy it - so if you can I would wait a year. He will still have a good time - but would also have a good time in the park or garden or almost anywhere. I took my son when he was 2 - he loved the legocity best I think.
It is a good idea to get there as early as possible - to avoid the traffic jams as much as anything. If you can go outside of summer holidays or at the very least avoid bank holidays or weekends. At least with younger kids the queues are not so bad - the worst queues are the rides for older children.
Hotels - there are various travel lodges within a short car drive. Slough, Staines and Bracknall. The only one I know is the one in staines - this is mega basic, no breakfast facilities at all, not sure how big the family rooms would be but normal bedroom small. It is near a waitrose/restaurants such as Nandos/Pizza hut/and a McDonalds. There is also a nice Thameside walk, and a decent park within 10 minutes walking. A train into central london takes around 35 minutes and costs £6ish for a off-peak day return to waterloo. (London Eye is within walking distance so need to mess about with tubes, no steps at Waterloo so no prob with pram). Windsor is about 10 minutes by train and is quite pleasant for a wander - and the changing of the guard ceremony (or some of it at least) can be watched outside the castle. So if you can get a cheap room could be an option. Legoland is 15 minutes away by car.
Alternatively, if you have enough clubcard points, you can use them on Hilton Hotels, McDonald HOtels, Thistle, Ramada Jarvis and Marriot - most of these have hotels within the vecinity. If you stay in the Hilton Bracknall (dont think it is in the centre), then another day trip alternative could be Birdland - this is just off the M3).
Virginia Water lake is on the A30 - as long as you park on the road it is completely free and gorgeous. Otherwise a walk round Windsor Great Park is free too.0 -
Hi Youngmum
I went to legoland in the easter holidays with a 3 year old and 3 teenagers.
We stayed in a travel lodge for ten pound a night for each family room.
We stayed for 2 nights as we went to thorpe park aswell.
we used the travel lodge as a base got breakfast at the local tesco while we got our picnic for the day as legoland is very expensive for food ect.
The tenner rooms come up every now and then and someone normally posts on the grabbit board so keep a look out.
I thought it was excellent value for money,we had a double bed, sofa bed and pullout, clean towells each day and maid service which i was not expecting.
We also paid with tesco vouchers which are fantastic,we would never had been able to afford to go without them.
There was plenty to do at legoland you really do need the whole day to get round it. Thorpe park really is for teenagers but the good thing is you dont pay for chilldren under 1m tall and there are about 9 rides that they can go on and a train ride to a mini farm and play areas ect.0 -
Thank you both

If you do decide to leave it a little longer I can 100% recomend pitching a tent at wellington country park http://www.wellington-country-park.co.uk/
I know that it could be a bit of a challenge while the baby is still so young (though some do it) but might be handy for future reference? I went with my 3 boys and thought I'd hate it (did it for their sake) but I'm totally converted! The park initself is a lovely place, with lots of things to see and do so can be turned into a 'holiday'. It's only about a 20min drive to legoland.
Hope it helps xJanuary '06 Grocery Challenge (4th - 31st) £320.Week 1 - £73.99 Week 2 £5.10 (so far
)
Someone burst my bubble and I lost the plot so no idea what I spent now...Other Jan :- Petrol £20.41, Clothes £8.50, House £3.
I will try to work it out.

If you are going to do the campsite thing, then there is another site in Laleham (again about 15 minutes from Legoland) - this is a really lovely spot on the River Thames.
http://www.lalehamcampingclub.co.uk/
This would cost £5 per adult and nothing for children under 6. There are some reviews here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1120
It is a really beautiful location.0 -
Must admit campings not really our thing but thank you for the suggestions anyway
