would low water pressure affect shower?

From today something is wrong with our water supply.

There is ahardly any water coming through the pipes. I wonder if there is low water pressure due to the hot weather and it is affecting the water flow.

Also the shower won't work,no water comes into it. It is electric and runs off the hot water tank. Would low water pressure affect this and do you think this is what the problem is?

Reluctant to call plumber till after the bank hols!!!

yes, low pressure would affect it..

The water at your mains entry must have a running pressure of min 1 bar, must flow at a rate of 8 liters per minute and have a maximum static pressure of 10 bar. Most electric showers will be configured for these water bye law stipulations but it is as well to check with the manufactures instructions.

An electric shower runs directly off the cold water mains supply, if the mains pressure is low then yes, it will be affected. If you mean a conventional mixer shower with an electric pump, then the hot water is fed off your hot water tank.
Is it mains pressure you have lost?-check the kitchen cold tap for this, as that will come directly off the rising main.
If the mains pressure is low and there is no obvious cause or leak on your property, then you need to call your water supplier, not a plumber. Have you checked with your neighbours if they have the same problem?

Some water companies will muck about with the supply at times of peak demand , we've had problems in the past due to this - if you are in a holiday area this might have happened.

Or, there might be a burst on one of the water mains. They usually don't bother repairing them out of hours now (to save call out and overtime) unless is a major problem. That would certainly affect your supply. Would be worse upstairs too.

most peeps will notice a pressure drop at peak times of the day, esp in the mornings.
ie everyone getting ready for work/school.
some areas are worse than others. and can be much worse.
    Get some gorm.
  • sorry to barge in on this...our water cistern doesnt get to the point where you will be able to flush these days. So, I always have to add more water in order to be able to flush the toilet. How can I correct this pls?

there should be line marked on the inside of your cistern. it denotes the proper water level.
adjust your float to shut off the water inlet valve at the correct mark.
    Get some gorm.
  • How do I adjust that??

I have to have a pumped electric shower as my water pressure is to low for a normal electric shower.
