broken telly

Hi all

Wonder if anyone can help me please. My lcd tv hd telly wont turn on although green power light comes on and the screen is black although a small amount of light comes through. The telly is about 3 yearzs old and a Viewsonic make, does anyone know how to fix this or is it due for the tip, thanks a lot.

Is the screen totally blank? No electronic display e.g. channel number or menus? Any sound?

    Hello, thanks for helping,

The TV comes on, the power light comes on, from red to green, and the screen lights up very slightly - then thats it. No menues come up from the remote control, or the buttons on the side of the television. Also the Sky usually comes on the telly straight away, but not now.

    Many thanks, Arlette

So no sound either? Mmm..sounds to me like the display back light is working (hence the slight amount of light coming through), the display LCD panel is possibly working but the controlling electronics has gone wrong.

Bit desperate, but try disconnecting all cables from the TV (except the power) and see if it does anything different when you switch it on. You can occasionally get problems with the attached devices giving the TV electronics trouble (particularly through scart cables).

Hi an thanks Bonzer, have done all that, piddled about with it and nothing seems to work, seems like we def got to buy another one, i am annoyed about it though as we have had it about three years and paid 900 pounds for it so expected it to last a bit longer. Oh reckons its not worth even taking to a shop as somthing else is bound to go wrong with it. But thankyou for the advice and taking the time to post.
