Pick up only and paid with Paypal

Hi
i just sold something on ebay for pickup only, I sent them the invoice and said cash on collection and what time we are likely to be in. A few minutes later they have paid via paypal.
This is not only annoying because I have had to then pay fees, but my main reason for this is post, is am I still protected under Paypal for when they collect then? I seem to recall that to be protected I have to post the item out.
Also, just this second received an email and they are on holiday and can't colect for a week! would have been nice if they asked if that was alright before bidding.
Not sure if I smell a rat though, but they do have zero rating and it not a high value itme (only £21), just more annoying than anything.
Any thoughts would be great.

No, you will not be protected by Paypal.
What you should have done was stated in your listing that if paying via Paypal the item would be couriered by tracked method at the buyers expense in order to qualify for Paypal protection. Then state that cash on collection will be accepted for local pick-up. That should cover you for the fact that you must offer Paypal as a payment method. You could try to do that retroactively by refunding the buyer and telling them the above, but they could try to be difficult about it.0 -
sadly you have to accept paypal on every listing, Its annoying for collection items and i to do put cash on collection and luckily havent had anyone pay with paypal.
You coudl send them a message and say would they mind if you refunded them and they paid cash on collection.0 -
You could always offer an incentive for cash on collection..give them the saving you would make on not using paypal and maybe they will be happy to be refunded and pay cash instead?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for the response, not really worth bothering with for the sake of 91 pence, more annoying than anything.0

I had someone pay via paypal as they couldn't collect the item for a week (though they did ask if this was okay before buying my item).
They were extremely nice though as due to me agreeing that waiting a week for it to be collected was okay they paid via paypal and added on £2 to cover my paypal fees so i actually got the same amount i would of done had they paid cash on collection.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
no you will not be covered, I'm out £475 due to this scam...if someone buys with paypal always send recorded delivery to a verified address.0

Recorded would not have helped only special would have guaranteed a signature viewable online as per paypal requirements for items over £150 Also, verified addresses are immaterial, all that matters now is that you send it to the address paypal give in the same box where paypal say 'OK to send'.
This is a serious issue with ebay and paypal both having rules that are mutually exclusive and the reason why I no longer list high end goods for colelction only. Ebay say that buyers must be allowed to use paypal, yet paypal say that it should not be used where items cannot be posted and tracked online to delivery.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Can anyone help me then? I have an expensive item for sale on Ebay (a KORG synthesiser) that is currently £770. I have written on the post i want cash only and I won't sell otherwise. But i had to include paypal in the options. If someone pays me cash, how do i deal with the payment? previously I've offered cheap stuff and accepted payapl. And what if they pay me by paypal and say they hadn't understood? How long do I make them wait before they can't claim the cash back?0

There is a real problem with paypal and ebay where items need collection and cannot be posted.
You can't specifically ask for cash, your listing can even be pulled if someone is bothered to report it. However you can put cash on collection as an option.
If someone pays paypal you have the hassle of refunding them and maybe getting a neg and a non performing seller complaint, and of course you get to pay those very high FVFs.
Whilst many buyers will be happy to pay you cash on collection there is the chance that you may get someone who wants to fund this via a card, and therefore pay by paypal, so you are stuck.
Incidentally, if you take cash you are fine, unless they want to go down the small claims route later for some obscure reason or other which frankly is unlikely, they have no comeback via ebay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
