Washing machine failure after 14 months in New Build property

Hi folks,
Our Whirlpool AWZ 510E washer/dryer machine has just failed after only 14 months in a New Build property.
It was always been a little temperamental - not quite turning off when the control knob is set to O; but as of yesterday the drum fails to spin although the motor can be heard spinning.
There are only two of us living in the house so it has only seen light use.
Is the builder responsible for its repair or replacement under the Sales of Good Act?
I expect they are going to try to palm me off with the manufacturers warranty.
Any advice on where I stand and how best to progress this would be very much appreciated.
Cheers!

To be honest I think the builders will probably refer you to whirlpool anyway as their repair agents. Have you got any paperwork showing how long the warranty is? I work for a different manufacturer and we used to give 2yr builders warranties on appliances.
Id give whirlpool a call first to see where you stand.0 -

It has a 12 month guarantee. Typical!0
