I can see the benefit of a lodger but we only have a 3bed house, the third room being a box (our unborn baby's nursery) - and yes, 2 small children, 1 will be a baby - not sure someone will want to lodge with a family who will be woken up at least once a night very soon!?

Utility thing is a great idea, will do that!

Have you tried using the snowball calculator?

It can show you how any extra money you save can go toward bringing forward your debt free date.

Your immediate plans need to be to start a spending diary and cut all your out goings back to the minimum, you can probably still cope with the minimum payments even if you can't negotiate any breaks.

Can anyone tell me where i access a snowball calculator?

I have thought about that in the past. I teach History at secondary level and so not always the need for it - unlike Maths, English, lanuages etc. Will look into it though. Thanks.

www.whatsthecost.com and just follow the signs to snowballing. I love it! I have printed off the overview and me and OH look at it and see an end in sight!

Like you I just want to win the lottery and get on with life, doesn't quite work like that sadly.

The hardest part is facing up to it, I thought about a DMP as well but we do have extra money and I can cut back. Also my biggest motivation is current mortgage deal ends in October 2012 and I need a good deal so I need to debt bust. For me this is the absolute last chance saloon and pulling out all the stops.

If you look at snowballing and keep a spending diary then every baby step you make will go into bigger steps and you will end up feeling really pleased. I now have a challenge to get rid of Egg CC and I WILL do it.

Well done for still posting, it can be so easy to face up to it, then go away and carry on as before, believe me I have done it often....

You could ring them and ask them to lower the interest rate or explain the situation you are in and ask them for a bit of understanding? If you haven't defaulted on any payments yet they might be able to offer some assistance in the short term? It's certainly worth a go.

Did you find the snowball calculator - what did you think?

I have just spent the last 20min reading your posts and the replies I am very much in the same situation and probably a bit worse and thinking of an IVA as a way out, just wanted to say congrats on your pregnancy and enjoy what you have left before baby arrives, it has taken me 5 years to realise our debt it out of control and was very much stressed like when pregnant with my second who is now 19 months old but did nothing about it and it has gotten worse, so I am now tackling my debt demons.

Keep posting it really helps others too.
