Just a heads up......
My OH has received an email on his business address allegedly from HMRC. Body of text reads -
Dear Applicant:
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that
you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 178.25 GBP
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 3-6 days in order to
process it.
A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.
Please submit the form attached to your email in order to complete your tax refund
Best Regards,

And then there's a link to a very clever official looking document - which also happens to request debit card no's etc for the refund to be processed.
Just make sure you don't fall for it - he had to do a double take coz the figure they've quoted is roughly the refund he's expecting!

HMRC know about these type of emails, but unfortunately there's not much they can do about them.
Details of the emails that HMRC know about here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/security/examples.htmNo trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -
Plus HMRC make it widely known that they will not offer tax refunds through email. There is a phishing team that deal with the scams though.0

i got exactly the same email today to my business email address with a link to what (almost) looks like a HMRC form, very clever little scam this and i hope no one falls for it, apart from the fact they dont email you to tell you you are owed money another good give away is the fact the make a point in asking for a credit card number and say they cant process a debit card.0

I just got this E-mail today so it is still circuiting around the web it seems scarily though the E-Mail says it is from HM Revenue & Customs (srvc@hmrc.gov.uk) which does look geniune the 20-25 other Emails in the to field were the biggest givaway though how coincidental that we are all owed the same amount spooky lol0

I get a couple of these most months, I think that some people will fall for it because it's always a relatively small amount, I think mine are always under £200.0
