ID3 tags getting mixed up - ipod dying ?

Much to my absolute horror, i've just been nosing through my ipod and updating some of the ID3 tags, as i usually do when i'm bored off my !!!!
anyway, i've literally just played 10 songs in a row that all have the wrong title.
for example - on my ipod, the song is "Breakout" by Swing Out Sister.
If you select it to play, it actually plays "Town Called Hypocrisy" by Lostprophets.
There's loads of songs that are messed up like this - i really didn't realise (probably due to having 6000 songs on it)
Could it be a database foul up ? Duff sectors on the ipod ?
Any suggestions most welcome ...

Check your iTunes Library, is the same thing happening there?
If not, then try to sync again, if the problem is still there then restore the iPod (do this from iTunes) and then sync. If the problem is still there then try and sync the iPod with somebody else's iTunes and see if it messes up the tags even with a different library.
If it does then you may have a broken hard drive, if not, you may either have a messed up iTunes Library. Try to sync a different iPod with your library and see if you have the same problems on another iPod.
Try this and get back to me... I will tell you what to do from there!0 -
well the same songs are incorrectly labelled on my hard drive, due to me copying them off the ipod a few weeks back.
i'm actually currently halfway through doing a re-format - i'd rebooted to disk mode and am just using windows to format the whole thing.
i've downloaded itunes so i'll do a restore after that and then upload everything back up and see how i go.
i've had it for a couple of years and it was second hand when i bought it - and considering how often i use it, it may well have just worn out a bit

Due to the way software used to copy songs from the iPod to your computer managed the method, the results can vary. It could have been the software used that is at fault. What software did you use to copy your songs from your iPod?jasonwatkins wrote: »well the same songs are incorrectly labelled on my hard drive, due to me copying them off the ipod a few weeks back.
I'm not ruling out the possibility of the iPod being on it's way out, but it seems unlikely. Each song's ID3 tag (the one that provides song information), is stored within each song file. Finding the songs all swapping ID3 tags would be like finding your CD faces all swapping images (albeit an easier task in the digital realm).0
