Unsure what paint to use on doors

Hi all.

We have recently decorate the lounge and are painting the door which leads to the kitchen, we are having a new door fitted which leads to the hall next Friday.

The rest of the wood in the room is painted in White satin wood (the dado and the skirting). But am unsure whether to use this same paint for the doors or whether to use white gloss? Am about to buy the paint, so need to decide.

Can anyone give me any advice?

I'd stick with dulux white satinwood (oil-based is better IMHO ..though i'm sure others will have their case for water-based paint which i hate using!). IMO white gloss is a bit yuk these days.

  • IF you use gloss use non-drip and try to use a gloss roller. There is a very big differene between when I paint a door with a brush and when I use a roller!

what's the difference between a gloss roller and an emulsion one?

also can you use a roller with any type of gloss? thanks

    Explains better than me :D

After over thirty years of using a paint brush...... and taking too long
Have only recently started to use a roller on doors .... very happy with my results
  • One other thing with this - I bought a cheap roller and binned it rather than trying to clean it! Still excellent results. Only problem is that I forgot I had binned it and had to use a brush. I shall now be making sure I have some in stock - too much of a difference!

  • Sorry to hijack the thread a little but I'm having a cabin bed fitted along with a childs desk, all the fronts are going to be MDF, would gloss with a roller be best for this? I'm worried about getting a really good finish to it.
