Admiral car insurance rip-off

Have been with Admiral for the last couple of years. Had my renewal through this year and they wanted to charge me over £450 for fully comp. I had had a cheaper quote so they reduced this to £400. Have since found a quote with HSBC for £220 so will go with that. However, I thought I'd do a quick test and get an online quote with Admiral with the exact same details but changing my name and it came back with a quote of £337. Over £100 cheaper than they wanted to charge a previously loyal customer. No wonder insurance companies get a bad name!

It always pays to shop around IMO. We hardly ever stay with the same co for 2 yrs running. (I think its happened twice) My Dad has been with the same co for years, lord only knows what he pays but he doesn't question it, just pays his renewal and thats it.

this is just the nature of insurance companys. I would surprise you how many people will just pay their renewal without shopping around. Even getting a new quote with your existing insurer. This is what companys rely on as some people are just lazy and dont realise that a couple of hours phoning arpund can save quite a bit of money

Totally agree with that. Everyone I know thinks I'm mad to spend roughly an hour a day everyday in the week before our renewal is due, on the phone to ins co's. I'm calling mostly 0800 no's so free anyway, and I'm at home all day so might as well get the best deal I can. We have 2 cars and a bike so I do it for all 3 vehicles. Worst case is I don't better the renewal (have never had that happen yet) and we just pay the renewal. I keep telling my friends they will most likely get a better deal just by calling say 5 or 6 co's but they don't bother.

I change mine every year, I always find a cheaper provider than renewall quote.
