Boiler - Loud Banging

I have a Range Tribune HE boiler. When the hot water comes on, I get a loud banging noise for a few seconds. You can hear the water rushing through the pipes.

I have checked the pressure and it is at zero, which I think is the problem, but I cannot work out how to increase the pressure. Can anyone help?

I am not allowed to post a link to the range-cylinders website, but it does contain the manual for my system.

    Hi

So you have a Range Unvented hot water cylinder. What boiler do you have?

    oops - beaten to it
  • ah oops

the boiler is an ideal icos. The banging is coming from the boiler and the pressure gauge is next to the cylinder then, but I am guessing you probably know that :)

    Thanks

Try and find the flexible filling link, this should be somewhere near the pressure gauge. It will have either one or two taps which must be opened to allow re-pressurisation. Fill until the pressure rises to 1 on the gauge. If you can see any manual vents in the airing cupboard you should use them to bleed any air from the system.

Start the boiler, if the presure drops slightly then re-pressurise again until you get back to 1 whilst the system is still cold.
  • I had to take the tap off and give it a tweak, but it works! Well no more banging, I'll keep an eye on the pressure.

    Thanks for your help.
