Hi, My son has a Acer Aspire Notebook 1203XC.
I know it is old but it has had very little use, he is now using it with a wireless adaptor plugged into the usb port but it is very slow because the usb is 1.1, can someone tell me what would be the best option for changing it to a usb 2 and would he have to open the Laptop up to install it.
Thanking you Drinda.

If it has an expansion slot on the side, you could buy a USB card, but the USB ports on the laptop are part of the motherboard. It's going to be very difficult to change otherwise.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
That Acer has one (or perhaps two?) PCMCIA slots, so as long as they aren't in use, one of these will give it two USB2 ports for £11:

You can probably find one cheaper on Ebay, though it will probably take a long time to arrive as they usually get shipped from HK!
BTW, it should just slot in - no need to open it up.0 -
It may make little difference to the speed of the internet connection, in theory, usb 1.1 is capable of 12Mb/s!!

I think my desktop could be updated with a bit of software, might be worth checking to see if there is an updated driver available0
